Other investigative methods

Another central issue in connection with PET’s investigative methods is the co-operation with foreign security and intelligence services, which is of vital importance to the activities of PET.

Furthermore, in support of its intelligence activities, PET gathers information through open and generally available information sources of information, e.g. newspapers, television, magazines, the Internet as well as electronic news media. In this connection the Service is particularly attentive to events on the national and international scene which may cause a reaction in Denmark and thus affect the threat assessments. The public – individuals and institutions – also contacts PET, providing information on events that may be of interest to the Service.

In order to process and analyse the information gathered, PET records the information of potential importance to the investigation of specific cases. There are certain in-house as well as governmental regulations on the registration of this information, as to how long it can be stored. For further information, please see the section on Control.
