PRESS STATEMENT
In connection with the investigation of the bomb blast at the Danish Embassy in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service would like to state as follows:
As previously mentioned, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service has initiated an investigation to clarify the details surrounding the bomb blast at the Danish Embassy in Islamabad on Monday 02 June 2008. In this context and for the time being, the Service has sent three experts to Islamabad. The persons in question are now at the location where they have formed a close co-operation with the Pakistani authorities as part of the investigation of the bomb blast.
At the Danish Embassy in Islamabad, the Danish Security and Intelligence Service has, for instance, secured a video recording from the Embassy’s surveillance cameras.
This video recording shows a car with the perpetrator arriving at the Embassy at full speed. The vehicle passes the Embassy entrance and out of the camera angle. Few seconds later, the car is brought to an explosion. This video recording will now be passed on to the Pakistani authorities to be used in evidence.
Moreover, witnesses have explained that, from the moment when it can no longer be seen from the camera angle and in the few seconds that pass until the blast takes place, the vehicle stops abruptly and reverses.
The information so far on the vehicle that was used in the suicide attack seems to indicate that the preparations to carry out this attack were extensive and planned over a longer period of time.
