As from 1st may 2007 Mr. Jakob Scharf was appointed new Director General of the Danish Security Intelligence Service, PET. 

Mr. Scharf was born 24th August 1966, and he comes from a position as Deputy National Commissioner in the Danish National Police. 

Mr. Scharf is candidate in law from the Copenhagen University in 1990, where he obtained employment by the Ministry of Justice. From 1991 until 1993 he was private secretary to the Minister of Justice and from 1993 Legal Advisor in the Prime Ministers Office. In 1996 – 1997 he served as Legal Counsellor at the Danish Permanent Representation to the European Union. After his return to the Ministry of Justice he was appointed Head of Division in 1998 and Head of Department in 2002. 

Simultaneously Jakob Scharf has been affiliated with the Copenhagen University as a lecturer in criminal law and international law. 

Apart from this, Jakob Scharf has also been occupied as prosecutor in criminal cases working for the District Attorney for Copenhagen.
