The Negotiation Group

The PET Negotiation Group is organised as a section under AKS. The Negotiation Group provides assistance to the police districts in connection with incidents that require negotiation in order to avoid use of force, to prevent any damage, to enable information collection or to facilitate surrender. Such situations may for example arise when an offender barricades him- or herself in a room during a kidnapping or hostage situation.

The principal task of the negotiators is to make contact with the perpetrators with the aim, if possible, of gaining control and getting an overview of the situation, and thus create the basis for reaching a peaceful solution.

In their daily work, the negotiators are attached to other police units, where they perform their normal duties. However, they can be called in when necessary.
